I have returned to the cyber world with more bliss! The last 8 months have been filled with lots of work, lots of play, lots of work that feels like play, some lows and some highs — and every-where in between-there.

Here’s what it looked like…

SUPPORTING OTHER HUMANS…

I have a lot of dear friends who are going through some extremely emotionally challenging times right now. Today I am holding affirmative space for my loved ones ( and yours ) in an attempt to support this intense and very collective energy of transition, growth and frustration. Somewhere between the crooked lines of the modern day friendship we’ve slipped into a very unconscious and superficial way of showing we care. Let us do the real work of holding our friendships to a higher standard than “thumbs ups” and emojis. Let us regain what we have lost- the very important / core purpose of having friends at all, as a systemic network of love and support. I encourage anyone who may be feeling anything at this time to reach out to someone– don’t just think about it, just do it. Pick up the phone and talk. And, if you aren’t personally going through a dark night of the soul (but you can feel its impact) pick up the phone anyway and be the one– reaching out and making your presence of support known, felt and heard. Let us be here fully, for each other. Remembering that in times like this, it is just as important for us to be tender with ourselves as it is to be kind to each other. Let us be persistent in bridging the gap– for our own well beings and sanity–Because, we could all use a few less acquaintances and a few more genuine friends.

 

Best Choreography Nomination for Monsters Come Out At Night…

What an honor to celebrate local intimate theatre, represent @zombiejoes and to be nominated for best choreography at the Valley Theatre Awards. I did not win but, it gave me an excuse to slip on my rogue lips & take my $5 leopard print thrift store treasure for a joyride to support this incredible theatre community! It is so important that we take time to honor the great work happening around us. This is what grounds us & our work in the truth that we are all fighting familiar creative angels & demons — on and off those stages— and we are doing it together, with love!

REHEARSING AND FUNDRAISING FOR THE EDINBURGH FRINGE…

11 days from now I board a plane to Scotland!!!! I’ll be joining an outrageously talented cast of actors & all around awesome humans for a month long residency at the Edinburgh Apex Grassmarket Hotel performing ZJU’s signature show Urban Death for the Fringe Festival!! Today I want to affirm all the amazing people in my life who stepped up in such a big way to help me make this a reality. Focus on ears, not rears and keep your filthy hands on your guitar. In the words of one brave jazz patron who simply came to listen to your music and instead got a whole disgusting handful of your sleight of hand on her ass, “Fuck You, You’re a Dork”. And, my “Crazy” ass is tired of hearing the “I’ve been like this forever” excuse. Grow Up and Grow A Conscience and I certainly hope your 2 daughters are surrounded by Crazy-Brave-Empowered women who teach them to have balls of their own enough to confront people like you.

TEACHING LOTS OF KIDS COOL DANCES & RAISING $869 FOR MARLEY’S MUTTS…

Today I affirm that teaching kids to be good people, who do good things in the world is a worthy cause. I am honored to be sending a check for $869 as a donation towards the incomparable MARLEY’S MUTTS DOG RESCUE! This donation is being made on behalf of the 80 students who worked with me in the ‘18 Dance Ensemble from John Muir Middle School VMA and danced their bums off for this cause! Thank you to those of you who supported our effort by coming to the show and purchasing a T-Shirt in the lobby at intermission. Of the many joys that working with kids on stage brings me, there is no comparison to how this specific project fills my soul.
